About The Position
The Middle School Boys Basketball Head Coach at Codman Academy leads and develops the middle school boys’ basketball program. The coach provides instruction in fundamental basketball skills, strategies, and physical training while fostering a positive team environment. The role emphasizes character development, teamwork, and sportsmanship so student-athletes can grow on and off the court. The coach must follow MCSAO rules and regulations and Codman Academy policies. The contract runs from December 2026 through February 2027. Practice times may vary. Compensation is a $1,500 stipend. The position is located at Codman Academy and reports to the Athletic Director.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of coaching experience at the middle school or high school level, or competitive basketball experience.
- Strong knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, and rules.
- Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and the community.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the training, development, and instruction of middle school student-athletes, focusing on skill enhancement, game strategy, and character development.
- Develop and implement organized practice schedules that promote individual and team growth.
- Prepare the team for games by developing strategies, scouting opponents, and conducting pre-game meetings.
- Uphold and enforce behavior and discipline standards during practices and games, promoting sportsmanship and respect.
- Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and the athletic department about team expectations, performance, and schedules.
- Attend all practices, games, and team events, including parent meetings, award ceremonies, and fundraising events.
- Ensure student-athlete safety and well-being during practices and competitions by following established safety protocols.
- Maintain and organize basketball equipment and uniforms, ensuring they are in good condition and properly secured.
- Maintain records to ensure compliance with MCSAO/MIAA regulations and Codman Academy policies.
- Keep coaching techniques and strategies current through clinics, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
- Represent Codman Academy professionally, foster positive community relationships, and promote the middle school basketball program.
