About The Position

The Varsity Softball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the school’s varsity softball program in a manner consistent with the mission, Catholic identity, and educational philosophy of the school. The coach is responsible for the athletic development of student-athletes while also promoting the formation of the whole person through faith, character, discipline, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and service. The Varsity Softball Coach serves as a positive Christian role model and mentor and is expected to foster an environment where student-athletes can grow both on and off the field.

Requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and conduct themselves in accordance with school policies, professional standards, and the expectations of a Catholic educational institution.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, respect for students and families, and behavior consistent with the mission and values of the school.
  • Recognize that athletics are an extension of the school’s educational mission.
  • Help student-athletes grow in faith, character, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, perseverance, and excellence while developing their athletic abilities.
  • Promote the dignity of each student-athlete and strive to create a competitive yet supportive environment in which students are encouraged to use their talents in service to their team, school, Church, and community.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices that develop individual skills, team fundamentals, conditioning, and game strategy.
  • Prepare the varsity team for regular-season competition, tournaments, playoffs, and other athletic events.
  • Teach proper softball techniques, fundamentals, rules, strategies, and game management.
  • Evaluate student-athlete abilities and provide appropriate instruction, feedback, and opportunities for development.
  • Establish team goals and expectations that promote athletic excellence, personal responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Develop appropriate practice and competition schedules in coordination with the Athletic Director.
  • Make decisions regarding lineups, playing positions, substitutions, and game strategy consistent with team objectives and school policies.
  • Coordinate with assistant coaches to ensure consistency in coaching philosophy, player development, and team expectations.
  • Maintain and promote a safe environment for all student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Support and actively contribute to the Catholic mission and identity of the school.
  • Serve as a positive role model of faith, integrity, humility, respect, compassion, and ethical behavior.
  • Recognize athletics as an important component of educating and forming the whole student.
  • Encourage student-athletes to demonstrate Christian values, leadership, service, discipline, and good sportsmanship.
  • Foster a team culture based on dignity, respect, accountability, perseverance, teamwork, and service to others.
  • Encourage student-athletes to maintain a healthy balance among academics, athletics, faith, family, and other responsibilities.
  • Support appropriate opportunities for prayer, reflection, service, and faith formation within the athletic program.
  • Uphold the teachings, values, policies, and expectations of the Catholic Church, school, and Diocese.
