About The Position

The Freshman Volleyball Coach is responsible for coaching and developing student-athletes at the freshman level while supporting the mission, Catholic identity, and educational philosophy of the school. The coach will focus on teaching fundamental volleyball skills, developing teamwork and confidence, encouraging academic responsibility, and establishing a strong foundation for continued athletic development. The coach will serve as a positive Christian role model and mentor while fostering an environment centered on faith, character, respect, discipline, sportsmanship, and service. The Freshman Volleyball Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach to ensure consistency in the overall volleyball program philosophy, skill development, expectations, and progression of student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Previous volleyball coaching or playing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and basic game strategy.
  • Ability to teach and develop beginning and developing athletes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage freshman student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach and athletic department.
  • Commitment to the mission and Catholic identity of the school.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for students.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain required certification.
  • Successful completion of required background screening and diocesan/school safe-environment requirements.
  • Must meet all applicable school, diocesan, league, and state athletic association coaching requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct organized, age-appropriate practices focused on fundamental volleyball skills and team development.
  • Teach proper techniques including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, defensive positioning, communication, and court awareness.
  • Introduce student-athletes to volleyball rules, terminology, strategies, rotations, and game situations.
  • Evaluate individual player strengths and areas for improvement and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop student-athletes’ confidence, coordination, athletic ability, and understanding of the game.
  • Prepare the team for practices, matches, tournaments, and other competitions.
  • Provide appropriate opportunities for all student-athletes to develop their skills and contribute to the team.
  • Collaborate with the Head Varsity Coach to support the long-term development of players within the volleyball program.
  • Establish clear expectations for attendance, effort, attitude, teamwork, and conduct.
  • Promote a safe and positive environment for all student-athletes.
  • Support and actively contribute to the Catholic mission and identity of the school.
  • Serve as a positive Christian role model through personal conduct, integrity, humility, respect, and compassion.
  • Recognize athletics as an opportunity to develop the whole person — spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.
  • Encourage student-athletes to demonstrate Christian values, good sportsmanship, leadership, perseverance, and respect for others.
  • Foster a team culture based on dignity, teamwork, accountability, encouragement, and service.
  • Encourage student-athletes to balance athletics with academics, faith, family, and other responsibilities.
  • Support appropriate opportunities for prayer, reflection, service, and faith formation.
  • Uphold the teachings, values, policies, and expectations of the Catholic Church, school, and Diocese.
  • Encourage student-athletes to maintain appropriate academic and behavioral standards.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, effort, and conduct.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student-athletes with the Head Coach and Athletic Director as appropriate.
  • Provide encouragement and mentorship to help student-athletes adjust to the expectations of high school athletics.
  • Promote a positive team environment in which student-athletes feel valued, supported, and respected.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all student-athletes.
