About The Position

The Moses Lake School District is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Assistant Coach for the Moses Lake High School Cross Country Team. The Moses Lake School District is committed to teaching and developing useful, life-long skills in its student-athletes and strives to provide the best opportunities possible for each student-athlete’s success. Moses Lake High School is classified as a 4A school by the WIAA and is a member of Columbia Basin Big Nine Athletic Conference (CBBN). Other CBBN member schools include Eastmont, Davis, Eisenhower, Sunnyside, Wenatchee and West Valley (Yakima). The CBBN awards league championships in 22 sports and has a solid reputation as one of the most competitive and successful conferences in Washington State. CBBN teams are consistent participants in WIAA State Championships in various sports and activities.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid First Aid Certification Card and a valid CPR Certification Card, or possess them by the beginning of practice on August 24, 2026.
  • Meet and maintain the WIAA Coaching Standards requirements.
  • Any combination of training and experience, which qualifies the applicant for this position.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out the duties of the cross country program as established by the high school Principal, Athletic Director and policies of the Moses Lake School District.
  • Demonstrated technical sports/cross country skills and successful experience in teaching these skills to secondary school student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, community, and staff.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Organizational skills needed to ensure a well-managed program.
  • Have excellent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modern trends, techniques, strategies, playing rules and procedures.
  • Assist the head coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
  • Organize, supervise, and evaluate practice sessions.
  • Implement a safety plan that includes teaching of the proper techniques and fundamentals.
  • Adhere to all safety rules.
  • Have an emergency medical plan in place.
  • Inform parents of individual players regarding attendance, discipline, and injury.
  • Relate to staff members in a professional and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship with athletes, peers, and the public (particularly at sporting events).
  • Motivate players.
  • Keep players informed of available camps, weight programs, etc.
  • Teach and discipline in a consistent and equitable manner.
  • Aware and adhere to WIAA, league, district, and building rules and policies.
  • Implement team rules in accordance with the policies and regulations listed above.
  • Direct student managers and statisticians on respective teams.
  • Assist the head coach in scheduling and providing transportation to sport events.
  • Adhere to scheduled facility times.
  • Instruct team members as to changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach.
  • Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
  • Arrive early enough before practice, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare, and remain long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with head coach or any staff member within hearing or sight of players or parents.
  • Strive to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Complete mandatory SafeSchools training annually.
  • WIAA standards require all coaches to complete sport-specific WIAA coaching standard courses by the start of the season.
