About The Position

This co-op/intern position is for individuals pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (or related technical field) who want to gain experience in Spacecraft Power Electronics and Power Systems. The intern will join a team of engineers that develop and test power systems for space flight applications, contributing to scientific missions and the development of technologies for future space systems. The role involves analyzing, testing, and delivering analog power electronics, working with full-time staff to learn design and testing of electronic hardware, and developing analysis and simulation skills. The Spacecraft Power Engineering Group (SEP) designs, tests, and delivers reliable spacecraft power systems for APL's space sector and the broader space community, aiming to foster an accountable and collaborative environment for innovation and discovery.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related technical field)
  • Minimum 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Available for a 6-month (minimum) term in Laurel, MD
  • Familiar with analog electrical circuit components and concepts
  • Prior employment or team-project experience in one of the group’s core competency areas: DC/DC and AC/DC Power Conversion, DC Power Distribution, Battery Packs, Solar Arrays, Power Systems, Power Circuit or System Test
  • Familiar with basic laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, etc.)
  • U.S. citizenship status is required
