About The Position

This is a co-op opportunity with Philips for individuals currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) and/or graduate (MS) degree. Participants will gain meaningful, hands-on experience working for a HealthTech company at our site in Latham. The role involves assisting in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets, troubleshooting mechanical issues, collaborating with engineers and scientists on design solutions, conducting experiments, and maintaining lab equipment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, biomedical engineering, Electrical Engineering or other engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, setting up and executing test protocols.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a lab environment.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and other engineering tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and experience in designing mechanical assemblies.
  • Understanding of thermal systems, heat transfer, cryogenics, or vacuum systems.
  • Understanding of basic circuits and experience developing circuits or programmed controllers to solve an engineering problem.
  • Experience working with teams to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Good attention to detail on documentation and experience writing technical documents.
  • Must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on building skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to cryogenic and superconducting systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop and implement design solutions.
  • Conduct experiments and tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of prototypes.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
