About The Position

United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR) is a public benefit corporation focused on developing novel pharmaceutical therapies and technologies to expand the availability of transplantable organs. Founded in 1996, the company has developed six FDA-approved therapies for rare, deadly diseases such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD), and neuroblastoma. The company is also working on creating manufactured organs to address the shortage of transplantable organs. This co-op role is with the IVIVA Medical team, focusing on advancing engineered tissue technologies through hands-on cell culture, tissue assessment, and experimental research. The co-op will contribute to the development of cell seeding and physiologic assessment procedures for engineered tissue constructs.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution and be in good academic standing pursuing a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in engineering or biology.
  • Students in their junior year or above will be considered.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours/week onsite in the Medford, MA facility
  • Relevant coursework in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or other related fields.
  • Experience with standard office software.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with biomaterials and tissue engineering concepts.
  • Proficient with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
  • Working knowledge of renal physiology or renal cell functions preferred.
  • Ability to think creatively and learn quickly will contribute to successful and timely completion of goals

Responsibilities

  • Assembly of culture system components.
  • Mammalian cell seeding and maintenance of tissue culture experiments.
  • SOP-based assay execution.
  • Creation of reports, data analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
