About The Position

Symbotic's Hardware Engineering team is a dynamic community of innovators designing the technology that powers our integrated systems. This co-op opportunity is for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering who will contribute to real projects, collaborate with experienced engineers, and gain hands-on exposure to the technologies powering Symbotic's end-to-end robotics and automation solutions. Intern opportunities in our Hardware function include Mechanical, Electrical, Testing, and Industrial Controls roles. Students will assist with designing, documenting, building, testing, and debugging the latest technologies and engineering designs, contributing to the development of advanced robotics and automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering required (Systems, Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or related engineering/technical field).
  • Familiarity with developing tests for integrated systems with a high degree of hardware and software complexity, preferably robotics or automation.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Knowledge of complex electro-mechanical applications including technologies such as robotics, vision, safety-critical systems, multi-axis sensors, localization methods, actuators, and control algorithms.
  • Strong analytical, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills with demonstrated ability to organize and present data.
  • Mechanical: Working knowledge of GD&T and other drawing standards. Experience using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software. Familiarity with manufacturing processes: machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, fabricated assemblies, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist one of our various Hardware Engineering teams with designing, documenting, building, testing and debugging of the latest technologies and engineering designs.
  • Design parts for various manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and fabricated assemblies using CAD.
  • Assemble electromechanical assemblies, fixtures utilizing hand tools, measurement equipment and machine tools.
  • Assist in debugging issues with the bot Mechanical and Electro-mechanical systems and components.
  • Develop and execute robot motion scripts (python) to control single-axis repetitive movements and coordinate complex multi-axis behaviors in support of test requirements.
  • Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of PLC hardware and software systems.
