About The Position

Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Co-Op to serve as a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technician, assisting office engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks. This is a full-time role for 4-6 consecutive months, beginning Summer 2026, with a flexible start date based on the school's co-op program. This position offers hands-on field experience and the opportunity to be a valuable contributor to project teams, based out of the Boston, MA office. Requirements

  • Candidate should be at least 2 years into their academic career.
  • Candidate should be enrolled in a civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering educational program (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Be a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in all MS Office software.
  • Valid driver’s license highly preferred.
  • Ability to work for 3 or more consecutive months on a full-time basis.
  • This position will require travel to job sites within the Greater Boston area and working outside of the office 90% of the time.
  • The position will include field sampling, lifting and transporting up to 50lbs of field equipment unassisted, bending, walking on uneven ground, working on large construction/industrial sites, working in the elements (following our Health & Safety guidelines), and use of personal-protective equipment (PPE).
  • Schedule includes early mornings, depending on project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining on-site health and safety expectations.
  • Serve in a field support role, working on interesting and technically challenging construction projects.
  • Field activities may include construction observation, sampling of soil or groundwater, in-situ density testing, and observation of earthwork activities.
  • Express a willingness to visit construction sites to assist in the field with our construction monitoring service group.
  • Assist engineers and Project Managers with the planning and execution of site characterization, subsurface investigation, and construction of various infrastructure and real estate development projects.
  • Communicate with the project team and prepare field reports.
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and geotechnical/environmental reports.
  • Assist with evaluation of subsurface geotechnical and environmental data.
  • Assist with collection of instrumentation data.
