Co-op Civil Engineer: Roadway - Spring 2027
About The Position
This Roadway Design co-op opportunity allows participants to contribute to the design and development of highway and roadway projects, ranging from small intersection improvements to large interchanges and bridge reconstruction. Working closely with experienced design engineers, co-ops will be involved in all aspects of the design process, from concept development to final construction plans. This role is ideal for a motivated new graduate to apply technical knowledge in highway and roadway engineering. The position involves performing basic engineering tasks that reflect standard post-secondary engineering curriculum, assisting assigned departments and projects. The position is based out of the Boston, MA office. Relocation and housing are not provided.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
- Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Accepts and applies direction from peers and supervisors.
- Ability to perform basic calculations.
- Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic work setting.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of 2 years of post-secondary Civil Engineering program.
- AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience.
- Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure.
- Obtains an understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of highway and roadway projects, including geometric design, alignment layout, and cross-sections.
- Produce and deliver highway design projects through a design submittal phase or construction phase.
- Assist task lead/project manager in preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final designs with supporting documentation.
- Support development of specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Prepare roadway design elements including alignments, profiles and corridors in Civil 3D.
- Prepare presentation materials for meetings.
- Assist in preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public presentations and workshops.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental engineers, structural engineers, and transportation planners, to integrate design elements seamlessly.
- Assist engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
- Assist Engineer with research, development and design of projects.
- Assist Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
