About The Position

The Next Steps PAR program works with clients referred to FST from the criminal courts and probation officers. Reporting to the Program Manager, this role functions as both a co-facilitator and direct service provider within the Next Steps Partner Assault Response Program. The position works collaboratively with the assigned Case Coordinator to deliver group programming, while also maintaining independent responsibility for aspects of client care, including managing a caseload of PAR clients, coordinating and facilitating mini-groups and/or individual sessions, and completing required documentation and court reports in a timely manner. The co-facilitator contributes to all stages of service delivery, including assessment, intervention, group facilitation, and follow-up, ensuring continuity of care when the Case Coordinator is unavailable. Groups are co-led by a female-male team. For this position, we are recruiting for a man identified person.

Requirements

  • A university degree or college diploma in a relevant human services field, e.g., social work, criminology, psychology, social services, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Knowledge regarding, but not limited to, trauma informed practices; partner abuse, child abuse, and the dynamics of violence and abuse.
  • An understanding of IPV including gender roles, socialization, the dynamics of power and control, and the effects of abuse on people, partners, children, and family units.
  • A general understanding of the policies and procedures of local police, Crown Attorney’s office, courts, VWAP, and Probation and Parole, as they relate to IPV and Ontario’s Domestic Violence Court process.
  • Knowledge of different cultural beliefs about relationships and families, as well as intersectional forms of oppression that may contribute to IPV, including, but not limited to sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism.
  • Strong knowledge of the dynamics of abuse in same-sex and gender-diverse relationships, with direct experience working with LGBTT2SQQIA+ individuals who have used violence/abuse.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in working with people who use abuse through psycho-educational group work using an equity, diversity, and inclusion framework.
  • Current knowledge of best practices in mental health (e.g., crisis de-escalation, suicide prevention, harm reduction, addictions, child abuse, domestic abuse).
  • Possess strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Criminal reference check with Vulnerable Sector Search completed within the past 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a psycho-educational group for 12 weeks.
  • Assist with sign-in, payment collection, attendance and sign-out for participants.
  • Individual or group-based assessment/orientations in collaboration with the Case Coordinator, and/or independently as assigned.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation, including group notes, case notes, and court reports, and may carry primary responsibility for assigned reports and files.
  • Facilitates mini-groups and/or individual PAR sessions, as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the Case Coordinator to prepare session content in advance and debrief group sessions, ensuring continuity, accountability, and responsiveness to group dynamics.
  • May provide crisis intervention supports when necessary to clients and makes referrals for other FST and community services.
  • May liaise with probation and parole officers, courts, police, and other collaterals as required.
  • Work with interpreters to deliver programming to clients who do not speak English.
