About The Position

The Co Director of Critical Care Services will maintain 24-hour accountability for planning and evaluating department clinical functions, including the coordination of all scheduled and emergent transport requests. This role is responsible for recruiting, orienting, and mentoring transport clinicians, ensuring they maintain required high-acuity competencies and certifications. The Co Director will enforce adherence to State Board of Nursing requirements and federal, state, and local regulations while ensuring a safe working environment for staff and patients. Additionally, they will act as the primary contact between the transport team, Medical Director, and administrative leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage work schedules to ensure full coverage of transport needs at all times.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals, offer coaching and counseling, and carry out disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Interview and select new nursing staff and auxiliary personnel based on specialized transport requirements.
  • Assist in creating and updating nursing guidelines, policies, and procedures reflective of best practices in critical care transport.
  • Perform regular audits and review incident reports to identify areas for process improvement.
  • Oversee nurse competency evaluations and specialized training for advanced procedures like intubation or ECMO management, Ventilators and vasoactive medication titration, controlled substance procedures and transport specific training.
  • Monitor and order medical supplies and equipment, ensuring the Rigs are ready.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget, including justifying clinical expenses and identifying cost-saving initiatives.
  • Ensure all life-support and specialty medical equipment is properly operated and maintained in working order.
  • Participate in a rotating administrative call schedule to provide leadership support during off-hours.
  • Investigate and resolve patient or family concerns and manage interpersonal conflicts within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Function as a clinical resource and provide direct nursing care or triage during high-volume shifts or crisis situations.
  • Strive to ensure all care follows established protocols and evidence-based practice bundles to eliminate preventable harm and promote excellent outcomes.
