About The Position

As a CNC VTL Machinist at Torus, you'll operate a CNC Vertical Turning Lathe to produce medium sized precision-machined parts for sustainable energy systems. Your craftsmanship directly supports our mission to empower communities to become their own sustainable energy providers, ensuring every component meets the exacting standards required for renewable energy infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience; VTL experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T
  • Proficiency in CNC programming with cad software. MasterCam Preferred
  • Proficiency in machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong attention to detail with commitment to quality standards
  • Working knowledge of machine maintenance procedures
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Capable of standing, bending, and executing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and climb ladders.
  • Ability to observe, detect and respond to audible and visual machine malfunction warnings.
  • Ability to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must report to work with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.

Responsibilities

  • Program, Set up and operate CNC Vertical Turning Lathes according to job specifications
  • Read, interpret, and edit CNC programs (G & M codes) to maximize efficiency
  • Read engineering drawings and apply geometric tolerances
  • Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and make adjustments for optimal operation
  • Use precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.) to verify tolerances of .0005" - .005"
  • Determine optimal feeds, speeds, and tooling selections for each job
  • Design custom fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts as needed
  • Inspect finished products and make quality adjustments to meet production standards
  • Perform routine machine maintenance to prevent breakdowns
  • Maintain a safe work environment with zero accidents or injuries
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and customer delivery deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
