The Turret Punch Press Group Lead must demonstrate the expertise in performing all the requirements of a Turret Punch Press Set-Up/Operator. The basic duty of the Lead is to select and schedule jobs in the correct sequence from the daily dispatch list, manage & set up tooling, and deliver tooling & sheet stock to the turret. The Turret Punch Press Lead must demonstrate leadership on the floor, be motivated, accountable and self-directed. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This position will be assigned to a 3rd shift schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrate the expertise in performing all the requirements of a Turret Punch Press Set-Up/Operator.
  • Demonstrate leadership on the floor, be motivated, accountable and self-directed.
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule work orders in the correct sequence on the correct turret based on the daily dispatch sheet.
  • Manage tool and die inventory. Including sharpening tools and dies, replacing defective tooling, and ordering replacement tooling.
  • Manages the sheet steel and aluminum inventory, performs daily counts, and transacts all sheet materials.
  • The Turret Lead may be asked to fill in as a Turret Set-Up/Operator when business situations require such.
  • Inserts, aligns, and locks punches and dies in turret; places work-piece on table and aligns work-piece to scale and end gauge on machine and clamps it to machine table; pushes button to turn turret to specified punch and die; and turns cranks to set indicator to specified dimension on forward and lateral machine scale.
  • Presses pedal to activate punch; Repeats operation for each machine setting specified on charts; and positions center punch from turret to touch plate and turns crank to scratch layout lines.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and work operations sheets to determine appropriate operations to be performed, Computes punch charts from blueprints and punches holes in nonmetallic materials.
  • Uses inspection gauges such as calipers (both dial and vernier), micrometers, squares, and height gauges to perform quality checks on parts as outlined by AQL and work instructions; reports dimensional problems to supervisor or set-up person.
  • Maintains and insures accurate counts on completed and scrapped material or parts; completes production paperwork and makes required entries into company database.
  • Maintains tools, measuring instruments, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner; reports all equipment problems or malfunctions to supervisor/manager immediately; and maintains clean, orderly, and safe work areas at all times.
  • Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations; Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with safety and training guidelines.
  • Know how to properly perform all duties and responsibilities of a turret set-up/operator as per the Avalign training system described in SOP600-009, section 6.
  • Must be willing to temporarily work “off-shifts” to fill in for Turret Leads.
  • Helps train new employees as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
