About The Position

Independently set up and operate selected CNC tool room equipment to produce high volume tooling, gages, and other production components in a fast-paced environment. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, planning machine setups, and performing inspections. The CNC Toolmaker will also assist in training apprentices, follow safety protocols, and perform hand operations for producing tools and dies. They may also collaborate with product designers on manufacturing capabilities for new products.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift approximately 40-60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with CNC Machining Center, CNC Lathe, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, Proto Trak.
  • Proficiency in developing and modifying CNC programs (G-code) using CAD/CAM software (Mastercam & SolidWorks).
  • Ability to convert 3D models into CNC machine-readable instructions.
  • Knowledge of tool selection and cutting parameters.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adjust CNC programs.
  • Experience performing routine maintenance on CNC machines.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman status preferred.
  • Experience with CNC mill, wire, sinker, lathe preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate selected CNC tool room equipment.
  • Produce high volume tooling, gages, and other production components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.
  • Plan the setup and operation of machine shop tools, considering material, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine feeds and speeds.
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work using precision measuring and gauging tools.
  • Perform required inspection before, during, and after machining.
  • Assist in training of Apprentice Toolmakers.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.
  • Use hand tools of the trade.
  • Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and other dies.
  • Work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs (G-code) using CAD/CAM software (Mastercam & SolidWorks).
  • Convert 3D models into CNC machine-readable instructions, adjusting for tooling and part specifications.
  • Select appropriate tools and define machining parameters (feed rate, spindle speed, depth of cut) based on material and part requirements.
  • Optimize for both roughing and finishing operations to balance speed and precision.
  • Design and optimize tool paths to minimize machining time and ensure efficient material removal.
  • Avoid tool collisions and ensure proper fixture setup for accurate machining.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust CNC programs based on production feedback or dimensional discrepancies.
  • Modify tool paths, parameters, or machine offsets to correct issues during production.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting key components.
  • Ensure machine calibration and check for any wear or damage to prevent production delays.
