About The Position

The 1st Shift CNC Set-Up/Operator in the Fabrication Department is responsible for setting up and adjusting CNC machines, specifically Vertical CNC Mills (3 and 4 Axis) and Horizontal Mills. This role requires a working knowledge of all CNC screens and functions, collaboration with the Quality department to interpret layout data, and performing equipment maintenance checks. The operator will also handle material handling, participate in continuous improvement activities, and ensure the quality of all machined parts. Responsibilities include managing daily paperwork, working independently and as part of a team, assisting other personnel, and reporting any equipment or operational issues to the Supervisor. Safety is paramount, requiring the use of Proper Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean workstation. The role also involves participating in a collaborative environment and complying with all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Able to read and understand inspection tools. (Micrometers, calipers, comparator).
  • CNC programming.
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Must also pass a skills-based test.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively; self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be conscientious, diplomatic, and detail oriented.
  • Must pass a company background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with Haas, Brother and DMG Mori CNC Machining Centers

Responsibilities

  • Setup and adjust CNC Machines
  • Working knowledge of Vertical CNC Mills (3 and 4 Axis)

  • Work with Quality dept. to interpret layout data
  • Perform equipment/maintenance checks
  • Able to understand material handling techniques to package parts off CNC as necessary
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities
  • Responsible for all machined parts on the CNC machine.
  • Check coolant for refractometer reading
  • Mix and fill new coolant
  • Clean machine at the end of the shift
  • Use and control of daily paperwork to include: Production sheet, Parts progress reports, Job traveler packet, SPC quality sheets, Other paperwork as necessary
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist other personnel and perform other duties as required per supervisor.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any equipment problems or any other problems.
  • Work in a safe manner always wearing all required Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, clutter-free workstation.
  • Able to participate in a collaborative environment.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Accepts feedback from the Team Leader to ensure the bundles meet safety standards.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
