About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear, a global leader in mechanical power transmission components, material handling systems, and custom forgings, is seeking a CNC Machine Operator for its 1st shift. As a CNC Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating lathes, mills, and saws, ensuring machine functionality and product quality through regular inspections and measurements, and adhering to safety protocols. You will follow production instructions, install machine fixtures, operate machinery according to specifications, monitor the production process, perform regular inspections of finished products using various measuring tools, and adhere to cleanliness and safety protocols, including wearing PPE and using a crane or buddy system for heavy parts. You may also be asked to assist in other areas or departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Average math skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to complete simple logs and reports in English.
  • Physically able to handle heavy items, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
  • Must be able to be certified to wear a respirator to operate a media blaster.
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours and comply with the company’s timekeeping policy and all other company policies.
  • Must be able to consistently stand for an entire shift in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Ability to learn fundamental machining concepts.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in using measuring devices.
  • Work closely with other team members, including supervisors, to optimize production processes and implement improvements.
  • Attention to detail is essential for maintaining quality standards.
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure to 1/16".
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to dependability and consistent performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience using a micrometer is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow production instructions and tasks from process sheets, blueprints, or verbal directions provided by the supervisor to achieve desired outcomes in the manufacturing process.
  • Align and secure cutting tools, end mills, blades or other fixtures to ensure the machine operates safely.
  • Set up and operate machines such as CNC lathes, mills and saws according to specifications.
  • Monitor the production process to ensure that the machines are functioning correctly and product meet quality standards.
  • Perform regular inspections and measurements of finished products to verify they meet specified tolerances and quality standards, using tools like pie tapes, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety regulations.
  • Use a crane or buddy system to maneuver large, awkward, or heavy parts.
  • Ensure that the work area is clean and organized.
  • Assist in other areas or departments as needed.
