Schafer Industries is currently seeking an Engineering Technician / CNC Programmer for its Schafer Gear Works operation in Roscoe, IL. This is a salary non-exempt position. Requirements

  • Requires some physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills.
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent is desired.
  • 3-5 years of experience in metal cutting preferably in gear manufacturing.
  • Proficient in use of programming software, ESPRIT and Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of various materials, cutting tools, work holding, cutting parameters, and heat treat.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting daily with production supervisor, setup people and operators to assure machines running smooth with capable processes.
  • Working with production supervisor and production manager to assure line items are shipped on-time and prioritize late line items.
  • Working with setup people on new part to assure parts are setup the way it is planned.
  • Working with maintenance department to minimize down time with a priority on bottleneck machines.
  • Making recommendations if any equipment is needed to be replaced or new capacity to be acquired.
  • Working with OEM for training on new equipment purchase and maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Analyze quality problems to find root cause and put corrective actions in place.
  • Continuous improvement of existing products.
  • Designing all work holding tooling and gaging as necessary to fabricate part complete.
  • Evaluating tooling for current business, finds areas for improvement on current processes and tooling, and makes recommendations.
  • Controlling tooling purchases and utilizes available tooling as much possible.
  • Looking out for latest tooling technology and make recommendations and justifications.
  • Supporting QA as necessary on setup inspection or final inspection for any inspection technique.
  • Helping operators on floor as necessary for inspection technique.
  • Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
  • Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
  • Adopt Lean Culture
  • Performing other job-related duties as required or assigned.
  • Passing along vital information to the Supervisor for effectiveness of the system.
  • Training new employees.
  • Helping evaluate job applicant’s knowledge for the cell prior to Schafer hiring.
