CNC Programmer

Bürkert•Huntersville, NC

About The Position

The CNC Programmer programs high-complexity precision parts in Siemens NX CAM for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining operations. The role creates and verifies efficient, safe tool paths from 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, selects tools, fixtures, and machining strategies, and supports reliable production of tight-tolerance components. Working with manufacturing and design colleagues, the programmer supports manufacturability reviews, machine setups, first runs, program debugging, and in-process improvements. The role also develops setup documentation, optimizes cycle times and tool life, helps reduce downtime, maintains program traceability, and contributes to standardization, continuous improvement, and training. Shift rotation may be necessary to provide support. The position regularly involves sitting, standing, and walking; occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and lifting up to 50 pounds. Close vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and color vision are required. Eye and hearing protection are required under safety guidelines, and the role frequently involves exposure to moving mechanical parts. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–7 years of CNC programming experience in Siemens NX in a production environment.
  • Proven experience programming complex multi-axis machining centers, including 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills, mill-turns, and lathes.
  • Expert knowledge of GD&T, high-precision tolerancing, and blueprint reading.
  • Strong knowledge of material behavior and machining practices for aluminum, stainless steels, Inconel, and a wide variety of plastics.
  • Proficiency with CAM simulation software (Vericut), machine verification, and collision-avoidance techniques.
  • Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S principles, and continuous-improvement (kaizen) environments.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and recommend corrective actions quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds; reasonable accommodations may be made.
  • Use eye and hearing protection as required by safety guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Manufacturing Technology, CNC Programming, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience is accepted.
  • Experience with post-processing and minor post-editing for Siemens NX output is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program high-complexity parts in Siemens NX CAM for 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis simultaneous machining operations.
  • Create optimized, efficient, and safe tool paths for precision components using 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing leads, manufacturing engineers, and design engineers on manufacturability and process reliability.
  • Set up simulation and verification processes to identify programming errors before programs are released to the shop floor; document and report post issues.
  • Evaluate and refine programs to optimize cycle times, improve tool life, and reduce machine downtime.
  • Develop setup sheets, work instructions, and other documentation to support machine setup and first-article success.
  • Provide shop-floor support during first runs, debug programs, adjust tool paths for in-process improvements, and complete machine setups for handoff to the manufacturing lead.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability reviews and recommend design changes to improve machining and reduce cost.
  • Maintain version control, program archives, and backup systems for traceability and program integrity.
  • Support CNC standardization, process improvement projects, and training for other programmers and machinists.
  • Perform other duties as required.
