This role is in the Process Engineering Department and reports to the Process Engineering Manager. It is a full-time, hourly position with a staggered shift (Noon – 8pm) / 2nd shift.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in setting up, programming and operating CNC equipment in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in working with Fanuc Controls, G and M code to develop programs for Mori-Seiki, Haas, OKK, Takamaz, DN solutions, FOM equipment or other 4 and 5 axis vertical and horizontal machining centers
  • Experience with developing and implementing macros in CNC programming
  • Experience of working with Fanuc robots, collaborative robots, robot gantry systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Creo, Fusion360, MS Office Suite (excel, word, power point).
  • Ability to read, interpret and utilize blue-prints
  • Basic math skills to include four functions, fractions, and decimals, as well as ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, and other gages
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in independent situations, and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusions
  • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing industry working on CNC machines
  • Experience with machining of cast iron and aluminum parts
  • Experience with working on multiple projects in parallel

  • 2-year associate’s degree in engineering or technology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages and executes tooling procurement activities, including obtaining and evaluating supplier quotes, generating purchase orders, and managing tooling repairs.
  • Manages and executes the tooling inventory process to ensure tooling is always available for operations, including maintaining inventory part information, auditing spare tooling, and communicating/expediting orders.
  • Leads and manages productivity and process improvements involving tooling, including identifying and executing tooling improvements, tracking improvements and cost savings, and designing/implementing tooling tests.
  • Develops and maintains documentation necessary to deliver training to operators, CNC machinists, Team Leaders, and others.
  • Mentors and trains team members on best practices, tool setup methodology, setup discipline, and machine operation fundamentals.
  • Reviews all new jobs prior to being set up, including print, program, material, tooling, fixtures, collets and holders to ensure no interruptions at set up.
  • Studies parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequence of CNC machining operations.
  • Leads and implements Lean Manufacturing tools & techniques (workshops, Kanban, visual management, 5S, total productive maintenance, set-up reduction, etc.).
  • Supports implementation of capital equipment projects.
  • Determines reference points, machine cutting paths, computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures.
  • Determines proper tooling and fixturing requirements of machining operations, including tooling speed and feed rates, and monitors/adjusts feeds and speeds as necessary.
  • Observes and simulates CNC trial runs using CAM software or other tools to eliminate program errors and machine crashes.
  • Integrates in-process machine and operator safety measures into programming where applicable, such as spindle monitoring, tool breakage detection, RFID tool tracking, etc.
  • Compares program code to original part specifications to verify accuracy.
  • Submits status reports to management on progress of assigned projects.
  • Performs program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution.
  • Monitors tool life and tool wear to detect potential problems and develops/implements solutions.
  • Provides support to maintenance, operators, and quality in problem resolution; responds to on-call inquiries from off-shift team as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as required.
