The CNC Programmer / Machinist provides timely support to Machine Shop employees by programming parts using CAM software. They collaborate with Machinists, Engineering, Routing Analysts, and the Machine Shop Manager to identify the most cost-effective machining methods. This role involves machining parts to print safely and efficiently using CNC Mill & Millturn, optimizing tool life, and reducing programming and machine run times to maximize output and lower costs. The position requires overseeing the programming of machined parts at optimal cost, determining efficient processes, creating CNC programs using CAM Software, and selecting raw materials and cutting tools. It also involves making recommendations for tooling purchases, staying updated on new cutting tool technologies, and implementing cost-reduction ideas. The role oversees the flow of programmed parts based on priority and need dates, reviews capacity, plans the workday, and advises management of progress and issues. It ensures parts are programmed according to daily priorities, responds promptly to machinist needs for program changes, and assists in expediting programming to meet deadlines. Creating and maintaining setup sheets, coordinating CAM program changes with machinists, and working with the Scheduler and Machine Shop Manager are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves machining parts safely, with quality and efficiency, operating various CNC equipment, reducing setup and run times, processing expedited requests, and documenting job details. Maintaining cleanliness and maintenance of assigned equipment, cleaning the work area, monitoring daily/monthly maintenance, and keeping machine tools organized are also required. The position involves making recommendations for improvements and changes for future jobs, collaborating with machinists on best practices, creating fixtures, and working with management and engineering on design changes for manufacturability, including redlining drawings.
