About The Position

The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) CNC Programmer/Machinist will program and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce materials test specimens and test fixtures to support the Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle. The machinist will also perform manual machining operations as necessary to support the needs of the laboratory. Work will take place at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Requirements

Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
Demonstrated experience using Computer Aided Machining (CAM) programs such as SURFCAM.
Demonstrated experience using CAM mills and lathes.
Demonstrated experience using manual mills, lathes, saws and shears.
Ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, calculator, and other general office and laboratory equipment.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs such as Solid Edge.
Experience with DMG Mori Seiki machining equipment such as mills, lathes and/or turning centers.
Experience with Haas VF-series mills.
Experience with Mitsubishi Wire EDM.
Experience with Mitsubishi Plunge EDM.

Responsibilities

Convert Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings to numerically controlled machine code using programs such as SURFCAM.
Manufacture primarily metal parts using computer numerically controlled (CNC) and manual machining techniques.
Manufacture metal parts using wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and plunge EDM.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Operate cranes and rig loads.
Operate forklifts.
