CNC Programmer Machinist – Prototyping & Manufacturing

Smarter AlloysCambridge, ON
$32 - $38Onsite

About The Position

Not your typical machine shop. At Smarter Alloys, you won’t be running the same part a thousand times. We do rapid prototyping and manufacturing of advanced devices, everything from small, precision medical components to large-scale clean energy systems. The tolerances are tight, the materials vary, and the range of what comes across your bench is wide. We’re a growing company with proprietary processing technology, and we need a skilled CNC Programmer Machinist who can keep up with that variety. One week you might be prototyping a miniature medical device, the next you’re machining components for an energy system. You’ll work closely with our engineering team to figure out the best way to make things that don’t always have a playbook yet. If you like solving problems on the fly, working across a range of scales and materials, and having real input into how things get built then this is that kind of shop. We’re looking for someone who wants to grow their career with us and make a meaningful impact as we scale.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience
  • Solid ability to read shop drawings and 3D models
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC mills
  • Proficient in Fusion CAM, Mastercam, or similar
  • Comfortable machining to specified tolerances and surface finishes
  • Good communicator who works well with a small team
  • Can work independently without someone looking over your shoulder
  • Strong safety habits and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Haas and/or Fanuc machines
  • EDM machining experience
  • Background in prototype or high-mix, low-volume environments
  • Experience machining specialty alloys or advanced materials

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC milling equipment
  • Develop toolpaths in Fusion CAM, Mastercam, or equivalent
  • Read and interpret shop drawings and 3D CAD models to plan machining strategy
  • Machine complex components to tight tolerances and surface finish specs
  • Work with engineering to improve part designs for manufacturability
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Support material sourcing — quotes, purchase requests, receiving
  • Keep your work area safe, organized, and compliant with shop standards

Benefits

  • Interesting work — you’re building devices most shops never see, from micro-scale medical to large energy systems
  • Growth — we’re scaling up and building out the manufacturing team; there’s real room to grow with us
  • Variety — prototype one day, production the next; no two weeks look the same
  • Ownership — small team, big impact; your ideas and input matter here
