About The Position

We are seeking a CNC Plasma / Burn Table Operator to run our CNC burn table on the night shift. This role involves cutting steel for critical applications such as destroyers, aircraft carriers, and submarines. We are willing to train individuals who are proficient with computers, can read drawings, and have some CAD or CNC background. The company has a long history, a stable workforce, and a significant backlog of work in the marine and defense sectors.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working on a computer for cutting and loading nests.
  • Ability to read shop drawings and mechanical prints, or ability to learn quickly.
  • Solid math skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English.
  • Reliability for night shift work.

Nice To Haves

  • Time on any CNC equipment (plasma, laser, waterjet, router, mill, or lathe).
  • CAD/CAM exposure (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or Fusion 360).
  • Experience with nesting software (Steel Solutions, SigmaNEST, ProNest, FastCAM, or Hypertherm ProNest).
  • Welding, fabrication, or steel yard experience.
  • Coursework in industrial technology, machining, welding, or drafting.
  • Military experience.
  • Certificate in burn table or thermal cutting operations.
  • Experience from sign shops, waterjet and laser shops, CNC routers, 3D printing, personal plasma tables, or drafting/machining programs.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and running CNC plasma and oxyfuel burn tables.
  • Loading plate onto the table and confirming material and thickness.
  • Pulling up nests, setting cut parameters, and running test pieces.
  • Reading drawings to ensure accuracy of cuts.
  • Monitoring the cutting process and adjusting parameters such as bevel, dross, speed, and consumables.
  • Checking finished parts against prints, marking, and staging them for subsequent operations.
  • Performing daily machine checks and upkeep.
