About The Position

The CNC Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring CNC machining equipment used in the manufacturing of automotive performance components. This position produces quality parts in accordance with established work instructions, engineering drawings, production specifications, and quality standards while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The CNC Operator loads and unloads materials, operates CNC mills and lathes using established programs and setups, performs routine dimensional inspections, documents production results, and identifies machine or quality concerns requiring assistance from a CNC Machinist, Lead, or Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to learn manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to perform calculations necessary to measure and verify machined components.
  • Ability to read or learn to read basic blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Ability to use or learn to use precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Basic problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to follow standardized work instructions and established machine operating procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, Leads, Machinists, Quality personnel, and Supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently after completing required training and demonstrated competency.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned schedules, including overtime when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous manufacturing, machining, machine operator, or mechanically related experience.
  • Previous CNC machine operating experience.
  • Familiarity with CNC mills and/or CNC lathes.
  • Experience reading blueprints or technical drawings.
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, plug gauges, thread gauges, or similar precision measuring equipment.
  • Technical, vocational, or trade school coursework related to machining or manufacturing.
  • Experience working in an automotive or performance manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing quality systems and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment using established programs, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Load and unload raw materials, workpieces, fixtures, and finished components.
  • Start, stop, and monitor CNC machining cycles to ensure equipment is operating properly.
  • Perform routine machine setups and changeovers in accordance with established procedures and approved setup instructions.
  • Make basic machine adjustments and tooling offset corrections within established operating procedures.
  • Read and interpret basic engineering drawings, blueprints, planning sheets, work instructions, and production documentation.
  • Verify part dimensions and specifications using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, plug gauges, thread gauges, and other measuring tools.
  • Perform required in-process inspections and document results to verify that machined components meet established quality requirements.
  • Identify defective materials, dimensional issues, tooling concerns, or questionable machine conditions and immediately communicate concerns to the appropriate Machinist, Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Perform machining and secondary operations including milling, drilling, turning, deburring, cleaning, and basic bench operations as required.
  • Maintain established production rates while ensuring quality and safety requirements are met.
  • Complete required paper and/or electronic documentation related to production quantities, scrap, inspections, quality concerns, downtime, and maintenance needs.
  • Monitor coolant, lubricants, and oil levels and perform basic operator-level preventative maintenance in accordance with established schedules.
  • Keep machines, tooling, equipment, and surrounding work areas clean and organized.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Use required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Communicate machine issues, production delays, quality concerns, or safety concerns to leadership promptly.
  • Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Work effectively as part of a production team and support departmental production requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and operational needs.
