About The Position

The CNC Mill Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC milling machines to produce precision components that meet engineering specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, tooling selection, and quality control. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to independently run complex jobs, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high production and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of CNC milling or machining experience (or equivalent training)
  • Experience with multi-axis machining (4-axis or 5-axis)
  • Familiarity with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360)
  • Basic CNC programming or editing skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Time management and efficiency in a production environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training preferred
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines (3-axis, 4-axis, and/or 5-axis)
  • Load tools, fixtures, and raw materials according to job requirements
  • Interpret G-code and M-code programs and make minor program edits as needed
  • Perform first-piece inspections and adjust machine offsets
  • Run multiple machines efficiently while maintaining production targets
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD drawings, and work instructions
  • Understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure parts meet specifications
  • Document inspection results and maintain quality records
  • Identify defects and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain compliance with ISO or other quality standards (if applicable)
  • Diagnose machining issues such as tool wear, vibration, or dimensional inaccuracies
  • Modify feeds, speeds, and tool paths to improve efficiency and part quality
