About The Position

JGA Space & Defense is expanding its precision machining operations and is hiring both CNC Operators and CNC Machinists. The company is seeking candidates at all levels of experience, from those beginning their machining careers to seasoned professionals. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for technical skills, work experience, and qualifications to determine the best fit for either the CNC Operator or CNC Machinist role, with compensation and responsibilities aligned with experience. This approach allows for recognition of individual skill sets and provides a clear career path within the Machining Department. Both first and second shift opportunities are available to support current production and future growth. Candidates are asked to indicate their preferred shift, though final placement depends on business needs, qualifications, and availability. The CNC Operator role is an entry-level position focused on operating CNC machining equipment, loading/unloading parts, monitoring operations, performing basic inspections, and ensuring quality standards. It serves as the first step in JGA's CNC Machining Career Path. The CNC Machinist role involves the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines, requiring experience with specific materials and a detail-driven environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred for CNC Operator candidates.
  • Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience is preferred but not required for CNC Operator candidates.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn CNC machining.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required for CNC Machinist candidates.
  • CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing machine setups independently.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with GD&T and precision inspection equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or precision machining experience.
  • Experience machining stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and composite materials.
  • Experience operating 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC equipment.
  • Fanuc control experience.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machining centers to manufacture precision aerospace and defense components.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments and report equipment concerns.
  • Set up CNC machines, install tooling, set offsets, and perform machine changeovers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and GD&T requirements.
  • Machine aerospace-grade materials including stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and composites.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify parts meet customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Maintain compliance with AS9100 quality standards and company procedures.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and 5S workplace organization practices.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
  • Work closely with CNC Programmers, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality to support daily manufacturing operations.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
