CNC Operator/CNC Machinist
About The Position
JGA Space & Defense is seeking to hire both CNC Operators and CNC Machinists to support its expanding precision machining operations. The company is open to candidates at various career stages, from those beginning their machining careers to experienced CNC professionals. The hiring process will assess technical skills, work experience, and qualifications to determine the best fit for either the CNC Operator or CNC Machinist role, with compensation and responsibilities tailored to experience. The CNC Operator role is an entry-level position focused on operating CNC machining equipment, loading/unloading parts, monitoring operations, and performing basic inspections, serving as the first step in the company's CNC Machining Career Path. The CNC Machinist role involves the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines, requiring experience with specific materials and a detail-oriented approach.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required (for CNC Machinist).
- CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment (for CNC Machinist).
- Experience performing machine setups independently (for CNC Machinist).
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings (for CNC Machinist).
- Experience with GD&T and precision inspection equipment (for CNC Machinist).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities (for CNC Machinist).
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn CNC machining (for CNC Operator).
- Ability to use precision measuring tools.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred (for CNC Operator).
- Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience is preferred but not required (for CNC Operator).
- Aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or precision machining experience.
- Experience machining stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and composite materials.
- Experience operating 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC equipment.
- Fanuc control experience.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machining centers to manufacture precision aerospace and defense components.
- Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.
- Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Perform routine machine adjustments and report equipment concerns.
- Set up CNC machines, install tooling, set offsets, and perform machine changeovers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and GD&T requirements.
- Machine aerospace-grade materials including stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and composites.
- Perform first-piece inspections and verify parts meet customer specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Maintain compliance with AS9100 quality standards and company procedures.
- Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and 5S workplace organization practices.
- Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
- Work closely with CNC Programmers, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality to support daily manufacturing operations.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
