About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Mill-Turn Machinist to independently set up, program, and operate CNC mill-turn (multi-tasking) machines to produce complex, high-precision components. This role requires advanced machining knowledge, strong blueprint and GD&T skills, and the ability to optimize processes, troubleshoot complex issues, and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship preferred
  • 8+ years of CNC machining experience with mill-turn / multitasking equipment
  • Advanced understanding of combined turning and milling processes
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
  • Proven ability to run complex jobs independently from setup through completion
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, height gauges)
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude

Nice To Haves

  • CNC programming experience (G-code, conversational, or CAM)
  • Experience with machines such as Mazak, DMG Mori, Okuma, Doosan, or similar
  • Aerospace, medical, defense, energy, or high-precision job shop background
  • Experience working within ISO, AS9100, or similar quality systems
  • Informal leadership or mentoring experience

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up and operate CNC mill-turn / multitasking machines
  • Load and qualify turning tools, live tooling, milling cutters, drills, and probes
  • Establish work offsets, tool offsets, spindle orientation, and probing routines
  • Run, edit, and optimize CNC programs for combined turning and milling operations
  • Perform complex machining including OD/ID turning, threading, live-tool milling, cross-drilling, and multi-axis contouring
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD data, and GD&T requirements
  • Hold tight tolerances and meet demanding surface finish requirements
  • Perform advanced in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools
  • Approve setups and first-article parts prior to production
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to tooling, fixturing, machine dynamics, or materials
  • Optimize feeds, speeds, and toolpaths to improve cycle time and tool life
  • Support new job prove-outs and process development
  • Perform and support routine preventive maintenance
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for other machinists
  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-code
  • Plan and establish machining sequences from print through production
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex machining, tooling, fixturing, and material issues
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve manufacturability and process reliability
  • Interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements
  • Apply design intent to machining strategies, datum structures, and inspection methods
  • Serve as a technical resource for blueprint interpretation and machining best practices
  • Hold tight tolerances and achieve demanding surface finish requirements
  • Perform advanced in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment
  • Validate setups and approve first-article parts prior to production release
  • Identify root causes of non-conformances and implement corrective actions
  • Support quality audits and continuous improvement efforts
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level machinists
  • Lead by example in safety, quality, and workmanship standards
  • Assist with training, documentation, and development of standard work
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, quality, planning, and supervision
