About The Position

Productivity, Inc., a leader in machine tool sales, service, and automation integration since 1968, is seeking an experienced and skilled CNC Machine Tool Field Service Engineer to support its growing customer base in South Dakota. This position is remote/field-based, with a strong preference for candidates living in the Watertown, SD or Brookings, SD areas. The role involves traveling to customer sites to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machine tool equipment and controls, primarily focusing on brands like Makino, Matsuura, and Haas. The ideal candidate will have a background in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of advanced production equipment.

Requirements

  • CNC machine tool repair and troubleshooting experience (Makino, Matsuura, and Haas strongly preferred).
  • Fanuc control expertise with strong confidence in diagnosing and resolving Fanuc-based logic and electrical system errors.
  • Multidisciplinary technical skills, with the independent ability to diagnose issues across complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Blueprint proficiency, including the ability to fluently read and interpret complex technical drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical ladders.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills and a professional demeanor while working on-site at local manufacturing facilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (required for company vehicle operation).
  • Local residency in the Watertown, SD or Brookings, SD area.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites throughout South Dakota and the surrounding region to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machine tool equipment and controls (primarily Makino, Matsuura, and Haas).
  • Perform new machine installations, leveling, alignment, and initial setup.
  • Repair and adjust mechanical systems, including spindles, drives, slides, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic components, including controls, electrical peripherals, and safety systems.
  • Calibrate and replace parts to ensure strict adherence to machine tolerances and precise performance.
  • Maintain meticulous digital service records, documenting machine status, parts used, and repairs completed.
  • Provide top-tier customer service, walking customers through diagnostic findings and technical recommendations.
