About The Position

Verterra Energy is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join their team in New Brighton, MN. This role is responsible for precision machining of parts for their innovative water-power technology, VOLTURNUS. The machinist will own the entire process from planning and setup to cutting and verification of parts. This is a hands-on, craftsperson role reporting directly to the CEO, working closely with engineers. The company emphasizes a clean, organized, and safe shop environment. Verterra Energy is commercializing a pioneering water-power technology and is backed by significant investors and a government contract.

Requirements

  • 8+ years running CNC mills and/or lathes professionally
  • Fluent with engineering prints, GD&T, and shop math
  • Strong setup skills: workholding, fixturing, tooling selection, and dialing in a new job from scratch
  • Comfortable being the most senior machinist in the shop on a given day
  • A portfolio of parts you're proud of - work you can talk through in detail

Nice To Haves

  • Haas experience
  • 5-axis experience
  • CAM programming experience (Fusion 360, Mastercam, or similar)
  • MIG and TIG welding proficiency
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, marine, motorsports, or other durability-focused industries
  • Exposure to composites

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run Haas CNC mills and lathes from engineering prints and CAD files
  • Plan jobs, including workholding, tooling, speeds and feeds, and order of operations
  • Own tooling and fixturing decisions for new parts
  • Take parts from print to verified first article
  • Perform first article inspection and dimensional verification using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and basic GD&T
  • Maintain documentation and traceability for hardware
  • Perform preventive maintenance on operated machines
  • Uphold shop organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
  • Help engineers troubleshoot manufacturability issues
  • Provide real-world shop knowledge feedback into design reviews
