About The Position

Machinist II is responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-precision components used in hydro turbines and complete turbine assemblies. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, and ensuring all parts meet strict quality and safety standards. The machinist monitors machine performance, makes necessary adjustments, and performs inspections to maintain accuracy and efficiency. Working closely with engineering and production teams, the CNC Machinist helps ensure reliable, high-quality turbine components are delivered on schedule.

Requirements

  • Proficient in blueprint reading and understanding of geometric tolerancing
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Two years to four years’ experience as a CNC Machinist

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Journey Machinist Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machines
  • Producing high-precision components used in hydro turbines and complete turbine assemblies
  • Interpreting engineering drawings
  • Selecting appropriate tooling
  • Ensuring all parts meet strict quality and safety standards
  • Monitoring machine performance
  • Making necessary adjustments to machines
  • Performing inspections to maintain accuracy and efficiency
  • Working closely with engineering and production teams to ensure reliable, high-quality turbine components are delivered on schedule
  • Making all but the most complex component set ups on large VBM’s
  • Editing programs for VBM’s
  • Making all but the most complex components set ups on large HBM’s
  • Keeping Supervisor informed of problems regarding work piece, schedule, safety, etc. as they arise
  • Editing programs for HBM’s
  • Cleaning up sweepings of machine tool operation scrap and collecting in scrap/trash bins
  • Setting up feeds, speeds and judging cutter/insert condition to optimize machining operation for meeting surface finish and productivity
