The CNC Machinist sets up, may write programs and edit existing programs, and operates numerically controlled machinery. These include but are not limited to lathes, mills, drills, and other machinery as required. The role involves maintaining quality and tolerances within .0003”, following written and verbal procedures, and working from work order routings, prints, sketches, layout sheets, written and verbal instructions. A working knowledge of programming languages and the ability to learn/adapt per machine is necessary. The machinist must be able to recognize and understand machine parameters and modify them as required. They will utilize knowledge of working properties for a variety of materials such as stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, brass, exotics, etc. Tool presetting and potential re-sharpening are part of the duties. Inspection of work produced using various measuring instruments is required to verify conformance to specifications. The role also includes following preventative maintenance procedures, reporting operating difficulties, adhering to company safety policies, and making proper labor and time reports. Keeping the machines and work area clean and orderly is essential. Additional duties may be assigned based on individual branch requirements.
