CNC Machinist - 1st shift, starting pay of $27/hour

Twin City Fan & Blower•Mitchell, SD

About The Position

The CNC Machinist produces machined parts, products, and components by programming, setting up, and operating CNC vertical milling machines, manual and conventional machines, and other equipment as required. The role develops or edits programs from manufacturing blueprints, schematics, and sketches; operates machinery to meet production requirements; and performs quality checks using precision measuring devices. The machinist works with Engineering to address product or blueprint issues, creates patterns and parts using CAD/CAM and related software, and takes action to correct out-of-tolerance parts or other production problems. The position also involves creating prototypes and samples, applying knowledge of materials, steels, stresses, and tolerances, optimizing tool paths and material use, verifying and maintaining generated code, and converting between 2D drawings and 3D models or flat patterns. The employee may attend relevant training, perform scheduled machine checks, maintain a safe and organized workplace, and carry out other assigned duties. The role requires following company safety and health policies and working in accordance with TCF Core Values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to determine reference points, machine cutting paths, and hole locations, and calculate angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting 2D and 3D models.
  • Practical experience with conventional machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of steels, stresses, and materials.
  • Ability to see and compare slight differences in the shape and size of objects.
  • Depending on the department, ability to operate a forklift, overhead crane, and electric pallet jack may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training.
  • Two or more years of recent numeric control operations and programming experience.
  • CAD/CAM programming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Produce machined parts and components by programming, setting up, and operating CNC vertical milling machines, conventional machines, and other required equipment.
  • Develop, edit, or modify programming sequences based on manufacturing blueprints, schematics, and sketches, applying knowledge of geometric tolerances and dimensions.
  • Program and operate machinery to meet production requirements.
  • Perform quality checks using calipers, micrometers, functional gauges, and other precision measuring devices.
  • Communicate with Engineering to resolve product issues and blueprint dimensional deficiencies.
  • Create simple and complex patterns and parts using CAD/CAM, eCam, SolidWorks, Hurco WinMax, and other programs.
  • Address out-of-tolerance parts, quality issues, and other problems by adjusting machines as needed to ensure production quality.
  • Make prototype and sample products as required.
  • Establish optimum tool paths and material and tooling use, including tool set points, starting points, cutter change points, and cutting feeds and speeds.
  • Verify and edit generated code for accuracy and efficiency, and maintain and update code files.
  • Transform two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional objects for machining and three-dimensional objects into flat pattern parts for fabrication.
  • Attend available training classes or technical school as required.
  • Perform scheduled machine checks and support machine maintenance as required to maintain machine life and safe operation.
  • Maintain safe, organized tools and work areas.
  • Follow TCF Core Values and workplace safety and health rules and policies.
