About The Position

BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for their Mount Vernon, Indiana facility. This role involves operating large-scale, multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to machine unique precision components for naval nuclear reactors. It is a low-volume, highly-engineered manufacturing environment where machinists are involved in the full build lifecycle. The position offers paid on-the-job training and mentoring, with required overtime that is flexible and additional overtime available. Machinists receive a shift premium for second shift work and premium pay based on hours/days worked. A sign-on bonus of $4,000 and relocation assistance for qualified applicants are offered. The job begins with training on day shift, then transitions to a three-day weekend schedule (Friday-Sunday) with twelve-hour shifts, paid at forty hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school equivalency with a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Associate’s of Applied Science degree in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent training plus two (2) years of on-the-job experience may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, angle plates, rules, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gages, levels, protractors, verniers, and light hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records; ability to complete process documentation and other production records.
  • Ability to work any shift, to include nights and weekends.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience machining parts greater than 8-feet diameter and 10-tons is preferred.
  • Experience with different machining attachments (i.e. right angle, universal, offset milling) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
  • Experience with Siemens and Fanuc controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machine tools to perform various machining operations such as milling, drilling, tapping/thread milling, boring, and turning to meet print specifications.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet customer requirements and product specifications.
  • Write/edit programs using both G and M coded controls.
  • Troubleshoot challenges with support of on-site engineering.
  • Read and comprehend written instructions, technical procedures, prints, sketches, and bills of material.
  • Work in a team environment by assisting the CNC Programmer as necessary to develop and/or test run programs.
  • Use advanced mathematical skills to calculate proper speed and feed rates.
  • Operate crane or assist with the rigging and moving of parts.
  • Maintain clean work area and daily housekeeping duties.
  • Collaborate and communicate with opposite shift through face-to-face carryover and log books.
  • Work with tooling application engineers to devise optimum tooling design and practices.
  • Work in accordance with all applicable company procedures, policies and rules.
