About The Position

This position involves operating CNC machine centers such as vertical/horizontal mills and/or turning centers. The role requires operating control consoles to enter data for machine operation, loading CNC programs and tool magazines, and setting up and positioning parts in holding fixtures. The machinist will also edit programs as required to produce optimal results and work independently with minimal direction. Key responsibilities include setting up and running turning or milling centers, independently performing inspections, and caring for parts in accordance with procedures for corrosion protection, handling, and Foreign Object Debris (FOD). The role also involves working to standard, contributing to continuous improvement, communicating issues to the team leader in a timely manner, and leaving effective notes for the next shift.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and at least one year related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.
Ability to perform statistical process control input and interpret statistical data to compensate for machining deviation.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations on fractions, percentages, decimals, and machine speeds/feeds.
Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.

Responsibilities

Operate CNC machine centers such as vertical/horizontal mills and/or turning centers.
Operate control consoles to enter data for machine operation.
Load CNC programs and tool magazines.
Set up and position parts in holding fixtures.
Edit programs as required to produce optimal results.
Work independently with minimal direction from Team Leader.
Work from and follow process specifications, travelers, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, work instruction, relevant process controls, and verbal/written instruction.
Concurrently run multiple machine centers.
Load machine as required in accordance with router instructions.
Actively observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
Conduct in process inspections and measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
Ensure quality standards / inspection plan are completed / meet for the completed machine operation.
Edit program as required to compensate for tool wear and machine operation in order to continually produce parts within tolerance.
Remove flashing, burrs, and sharp edges from work piece and perform other additional operations at CNC work center that will reduce shop flow.
Maintain cutting tool inserts and replace/repair tools as necessary to assure machine operation.
Keep machine and work area clean.
Use and own basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Team Leader.
Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
Other duties as assigned by Team Leader.
Set up and run either turning or milling center.
Independently perform inspection.
Care for parts in accordance with procedures (Corrosion Protection/Handling/ FOD).
Work to standard and contribute to continuous improvement.
Communicate issues to team leader in a timely manner.
Effectively leave notes for next shift.
