The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC turning centers, including machines with live tooling, to produce parts through turning, drilling, boring, grooving, milling, tapping, facing, tapering, cutoff, reaming, and deburring. Available equipment includes Mazak Integrex i450 and i250 series, DMG Mori, Okuma, and Kitamura Bridge Mill machines. The role uses programs from tape, disc, or direct input and works with a tool setter and other CNC equipment. Parts may include castings, forgings, weldments, and bar stock, machined to specified dimensions and finishes, including tolerances as close as .0002 inches. The machinist receives job instructions and setup information from the Foreman, Programmer, Floor Inspector, and Instructor; interprets prints and setup requirements; selects tools and fixtures; loads and unloads machines; and adjusts program offsets as needed. The position also involves tool sharpening and grinding, routine chuck and machine maintenance, reporting unusual material or equipment conditions, and keeping the work area clean and orderly. Second- and third-shift positions are available, with a shift differential and voluntary overtime.
