About The Position

Johnson Controls is seeking to fill the position CNC Machinist, based in one of our advanced R&D facilities located in Cranston, RI. The CNC Machinist will support R&D engineering activities by producing fixturing, prototypes, and small production runs. You will work closely with engineers to align on design intent, machinability, and critical characteristics. We require candidates to be US Citizens and/or permanent residents of the US. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience programming and operating CNC mills and/or lathes in a prototype or production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection techniques.
  • US Citizen and/or permanent resident.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Haas and Trak lathes/mills.
  • Experience using SolidCAM.
  • Experience within the fire protection industry.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components for R&D projects.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and 3D models to determine machining strategies.
  • Perform manual machining operations (lathe, mill, surface grinder) when required for secondary operations or basic, low volume tasks.
  • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operation.
