About The Position

The CNC Machinist sets up and operates computer numerical control machines to produce high-precision components for aircraft and related systems. Working from engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models, the machinist ensures parts meet quality and precision standards. The role involves advanced machine setup and troubleshooting, collaboration with engineering and quality teams, and contributions to efficient, accurate production.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience as a CNC Machinist, preferably producing high-precision components for aircraft or related systems.
  • Experience setting up, operating, and, when required, programming CNC machines for complex parts with tight tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and material properties used in aircraft component production.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, machining speeds, and feeds for materials such as aluminum, titanium, and composites.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and inspection techniques, including precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and CMM.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, technical communication, time management, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Must be able to secure Program Access approval.
  • If a security clearance is required, candidates must or may need to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming, including G-code and M-code, and operation of CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines.
  • Experience operating 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC machines.
  • Aerospace machining experience.
  • Familiarity with aerospace materials such as titanium, aluminum, and stainless steel and their machining requirements.
  • Associate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Machining, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Program machines when required, set up CNC machines, and operate them to manufacture components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical documents to determine machining operations, tooling requirements, and part dimensions.
  • Select cutting tools, speeds, and feeds, optimizing machining processes for efficiency and precision.
  • Perform first article inspections and in-process quality checks to ensure parts meet customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and setup issues to minimize downtime and maintain production.
  • Adjust machine settings and offsets to maintain tight tolerances and quality throughout production runs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve machining processes and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Document machine setup procedures, part dimensions, and tool usage to support repeatable and consistent production.
  • Perform routine CNC machine maintenance and ensure machines are in good working condition and calibrated to specifications.
