About The Position

CNC Machinists are skilled in setup, programming, and operation of CNC machine tools and the development of fixture placement and tooling processes. They possess the skills of a setup technician, operation, and programmer. They may specialize in the use of any type or multiple types of CNC machine tools. They will study printing, selection of material, establish plans for machining operations, understand machine programming languages, and have skill using computer-aided manufacturing software. This position requires an individual to read and understand blueprints, sketches, and samples to accurately machine parts to customer specifications. Some light duty lifting required and using a hoist to install vises, jigs, fixtures, and heavy work pieces onto the mill or lathe for machining. Use precision measuring equipment with both hands to accurately machine parts. Operating the controls of the mill or lathe with both hands to remove material from parts in conjunction with the specs and accuracy required for specific job. Check lubricating fluid and fill as necessary. Clean mill and lathe work area as needed and at the end of each shift.

Requirements

The ability to lift, bend, push, pull and move materials up to 50lbs.
The ability to stand or walk an entire shift (can be approx... 8-10 hours).
The ability to use handheld tools such as Hammers, Screwdrivers, Wrenches, Tape Measures, Micrometers, Calipers, Etc.
Standing: Continuously
Walking: Continuously
Sitting: Occasionally
Stooping (forward leaning): Occasionally.
Reaching/Working Overhead: Occasionally
Must be able to use micrometers, calipers, and t-gauges...bench and disc sanders...horizontal and vertical bandsaws.
Basic math, geometry and trigonometry skills are also critical.

Prior Lathe or Milling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Setup, programming, and operation of CNC machine tools.
Development of fixture placement and tooling processes.
Study printing, selection of material, and establish plans for machining operations.
Understand machine programming languages and use computer-aided manufacturing software.
Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and samples to accurately machine parts to customer specifications.
Use precision measuring equipment with both hands to accurately machine parts.
Operate the controls of the mill or lathe with both hands to remove material from parts.
Check lubricating fluid and fill as necessary.
Clean mill and lathe work area as needed and at the end of each shift.
Lathe Operation: Holding parts, tooling/sharpening, setup, cutting speeds and feeds, 4-jaw chuck, precision machining (.0001), cutting threads.
Milling Operation: Use of mill, attachments, cutters and holders, cutter RPM and feed rates, mill flat surfaces, squaring parts, milling grooves, drilling, and tapping, boring, dividing or indexing head, setting up angles.
Programming: Use of MasterCAM and G&M code programming to create programs for both CNC lathes and mills.
Identify types of metal and other material.
Understand CAD drawings.
Sketch a part.
