CNC Machinist & Programmer

True Anomaly•Long Beach, CA
•$27 - $60•Onsite

About The Position

As a CNC Machinist in Long Beach, you will help establish and expand True Anomaly’s machine shop and produce hardware for space applications. You will select tooling, build machining processes and standards, and work closely with engineering in an R&D environment focused on prototyping and rapid iteration. The role includes programming and operating CNC equipment, developing CAM toolpaths, contributing design-for-manufacturability guidance, inspecting components, and coordinating with teams across the vehicle program.

Requirements

  • CNC machining experience, including demonstrated proficiency in 5-axis milling and complex multi-axis programming.
  • Strong CAM experience with Mastercam, Esprit, or HyperMill, including writing programs and making informed toolpath decisions.
  • A proven track record in an R&D or prototype-heavy environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models such as SolidWorks or CATIA.
  • Experience working with materials including aluminum alloys, titanium, stainless steel, and advanced composites.
  • Strong metrology skills and familiarity with inspection equipment and methods.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain DFM concerns and tooling recommendations to engineers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations, to meet U.S. Government space technology export regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or space hardware manufacturing.
  • Prior involvement in machine shop build-outs, equipment procurement, or facility stand-up.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Experience with turning, EDM, surface grinding, or other complementary processes.
  • Exposure to cleanroom protocols, FOD/ESD awareness, and aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 and ITAR.
  • Background in fixture design and development for complex geometries.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, and other CNC machines to produce precision aerospace components from engineering drawings and models.
  • Develop and optimize CAM toolpaths using Mastercam, Esprit, or HyperMill, managing the programming workflow from model import through proven first article.
  • Partner with engineers to rapidly iterate on prototype hardware and advise on manufacturing feasibility.
  • Help lay out and establish the machine shop, including specifying and purchasing machines, tooling, fixturing, metrology equipment, and consumables.
  • Provide design-for-manufacturability input early in the design cycle to reduce cost, lead time, and complexity without sacrificing performance.
  • Maintain tight tolerances and workmanship standards; inspect work using metrology tools and ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate with structures, propulsion, avionics, and test teams to ensure machined components integrate with the broader vehicle architecture.

Benefits

  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with HSA/HRA options.
  • Flexible Time Off for exempt employees or accrued PTO of up to 25 days for non-exempt employees.
  • 12 paid holidays.
