About The Position

MIMO Advanced Manufacturing specializes in 3D metal printing for aerospace, rocketry, defense, and motorsport applications, combining additive processes with precision CNC machining to produce high-performance components for commercial and defense aerospace clients. The company is seeking an experienced CNC machinist and programmer to lead machining work, create solutions for high-precision components and assemblies through CAD/CAM programming, prove out precision machining operations, establish machining and inspection standards, and guide other machinists. The role is intended for someone with deep aerospace machining experience who can own a process from model through finished part and help others do the same. The position works in person on the day shift in Carson, California. The employee must be able to commute to Carson or relocate there before starting. The work includes standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and wearing required PPE, including a fit-tested respirator when handling metal powder. The position involves access to technical data controlled under ITAR; applicants must be U.S. persons or eligible for any required export authorization.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of CNC machining experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-tolerance industry, including significant precision prototype or low-volume work.
  • Hands-on 5-axis programming and setup using CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, GibbsCAM, NX, or hyperMILL.
  • Experience with CAM simulation and verification.
  • Strong command of GD&T and blueprint interpretation for aerospace parts.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges, as well as CMM inspection.
  • Experience developing a machining process for a new part without an existing program or setup.
  • Experience leading, training, or mentoring other machinists, formally or informally.
  • Clear communication with engineers, quality staff, and production.
  • Ability to commute to Carson, CA 90745, or relocate there before starting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and wear required PPE, including a fit-tested respirator when handling metal powder.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) or eligible for any required export authorization because the position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with titanium, Inconel, and other difficult-to-machine alloys.
  • Experience with tool presetting (standard and heat shrink), tool-life management, and fixturing systems.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or other aerospace quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and program, set up, and operate precision 5-axis mills and lathes for prototype and low-volume aerospace and defense parts, including finishing 3D-printed metal components.
  • Develop machining processes for new parts, including toolpaths, tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and fixtures for complex geometries and difficult-to-machine materials.
  • Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, models, and technical drawings, applying GD&T to hold tight tolerances.
  • Standardize and verify programs and post-processors so the team runs proven code.
  • Perform quality checks and first-article inspection on machined features.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for machining defects, including chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion, and tolerance drift.
  • Create and maintain setup sheets, process documentation, and control plans for other machinists to follow.
  • Serve as the technical lead for the machining team by reviewing setups and programs, training and coaching junior machinists, and helping sequence work with engineering and production.
  • Prioritize and coordinate the machining queue with production and planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to integrate subtractive machining into the full production workflow and maintain stable processes.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and machines, and contribute to lean and continuous-improvement efforts.
  • Follow strict safety and aerospace quality standards in all operations.
