About The Position

Seeking a lead CNC machinist for a manufacturing and stocking distributor specializing in SAE, ASTM, and ISO fasteners. The facility offers extensive in-house machining capabilities for custom fasteners and provides in-house plating and coating services. This position is crucial for ensuring the safety and productivity of the CNC department employees. The CNC Lead will also be responsible for stepping in when the CNC supervisor or Programmer is unavailable. Manufacturing employees must adhere to company Safety and Security policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years related supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years’ experience in basic programming, editing, setup and operation of CNC machines for precision parts with experience on Doosan, Okuma or Swiss machines with Fanuc controls.
  • Able to set up and edit the G-Code for each part, as well as edit the program, check parts, deburr parts, perform offsets, etc.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Ability to pass a basic reading, math, measurement, parts matching and counting test.
  • Able to read, understand, interpret and follow detailed work instructions and manufacturing specifications.
  • Ability to adjust to changes without compromising Quality or Performance.
  • Must be able to work a shift schedule and overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of scheduled shift.
  • Ability to manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms up to weighing 25-150 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
  • Manual dexterity using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, lift, and hammer.
  • Must pass background and drug screen.
  • Must have ASTM F2413 compliant protective footwear with a minimum height of 6 inches, low heal, and slip resistant soles.
  • Must have ASTM 2413 metatarsal guards and safety glasses.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in a technical discipline preferred.
  • Mastercam and/or Solidworks experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Help ensure the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to the CNC department.
  • Fill in when the CNC supervisor or Programmer is not available.
  • Coordinate with Supervisor and Programmer to ensure jobs are setup and running.
  • Read blueprint or job order for product and job specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be run, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
  • Set up machine, observe operation, and inspect first run and sample work pieces to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
  • Help other machinists perform and troubleshoot setups and ensure they are running efficiently.
  • Process First Article Inspections and verify conformance to quality standards prior to production runs.
  • Accurately complete work order paperwork/documentation.
  • Ensure that work areas are maintained in a neat and orderly manner at all times.
  • Assist in training new hire personnel in setup procedures, measurement equipment, production expectations and specifications.
  • Operate equipment/machines as needed.
  • Assist Production Supervisors in daily activities.
  • Lead shift with minimal to no supervision required.
  • Recognize and identify problem areas and assist with developing solutions.
  • Issue and release work orders.
  • Set the example for all other employees.
  • Lead and direct all aspects of the CNC department when supervisor is unavailable.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including Health, Safety and Quality Assurance policies.
  • Report injuries, accidents, near misses or unsafe conditions to a Supervisor or Manager immediately.
  • Perform other and/or related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
