Perform setups, troubleshoot problems, fill out necessary inspection documentation, and help contribute to continuous improvement. Reports directly to Production Supervisor or his/her designate. This role is responsible for production quality and efficiency using appropriate tools and equipment, and is qualified to perform special processes as needed. The operator will work from drawings, specifications, manuals, and codes to set up machine tools, and obtain cutting tools, gages, paperwork, and other necessary requirements for the specified job. They will investigate special machining instructions to conform to Quality Assurance requirements, and read and modify G&M programming and macros. The operator will also use CAM software to program basic features, and basic math and trigonometry to manufacture and verify components. Inspection and setup of castings and weldments are required to ensure all critical features finish in tolerance. The role involves selecting proper tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting techniques for various super alloys and stainless steels. Depending on the size of the work, incumbents may operate a variety of material handling equipment including jibs, overhead cranes, and their accessories. An assortment of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, bore gages, gage blocks, and gage pins will be used to ensure conformity. The operator must consistently meet customer’s quality requirements and expectations, and follow instructions, both oral and written. They must be able to interpret GD&T and work instruction documentation. The role includes providing instruction and guidance to employees assigned to assist and participating in the training of other employees of lesser classification. Other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or their designate are also part of this role. Safety and housekeeping are critical, with work potentially requiring the use of scaffold, ladders, forklift, and/or scissor lift, and cranes to move parts. Maintaining a clean work area, practicing safety at all times, following safety policies and procedures, speaking up when others are non-compliant, and wearing all required safety equipment are essential. The role also involves keeping an open mind to continuous improvement suggestions, bringing suggestions to the appropriate team member, demonstrating initiative, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm for the job, following up with a supervisor on professional development goals, and showing a desire to grow with the company.
