About The Position

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the CNC machines to produce wood products. The operator will review the project through the simulator, and/or blueprints and will perform adjustments, calibration to ensure the quality of products to be produced, safety, and troubleshoot issues when they arise. The CNC operator ensures that production deadlines are met while adhering to safety and quality protocols.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with CNC machinery and/or processing equipment.
  • Understanding the cause/effects of operating machines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine and process issues.
  • Problem-solving techniques and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of verification and quality inspection techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and other inspection methods.
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, and/or technical specifications.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate an industrial forklift and/or powered hand/table tools.
  • Basic computer knowledge/skills for machine programming and/or data analysis/entry for operational efficiencies.
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations such as tolerance levels, fractions, speeds and feeds.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Review the simulation, blueprints, drawings, and/or other quality documents in preparation for operating the machine.
  • Ensure proper calibration of the machine, tools/bits, and/or other attachments needed for operations.
  • Verify and inspect the material before operation to ensure quality standards and the correct size and type of product to be cut.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are in operation (light curtain, machine guarding, interlocks, etc.).
  • Monitor the machine during production, adjusting settings, or replacing tools as necessary to maintain accuracy and quality.
  • Provide a first article of inspection as per the drawings.
  • Perform in-process inspection using calibrated measuring devices.
  • Ensure the produced parts meet quality and safety standards before it is moved to the next process.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance as per the maintenance program for the machine.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, operational, or programming issues with the machine.
  • Understand and follow all applicable safety programs such as but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Forklift Safety, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Action Program and must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment/clothing.
  • Keep the area and machine clean and organized as per the owner's instructions.
  • Follow all applicable procedures, work instructions, forms, and quality documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine setup, production/issues, metrics, continuous improvements, and operational efficiencies.
