About The Position

This is a temp-to-full-time position for a CNC Machine Operator. The primary responsibilities involve operating CNC mill and lathe machines. The role requires the ability to stand for 8+ hours a day. This is a drug-free workplace, and candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen and be willing to submit to a national background check.

Responsibilities

  • Operating a CNC mill and lathe machines.
  • Adjusting machine controls and changing tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
  • Replacing worn tools, and sharpening dull cutting tools and dies, using bench grinders or cutter-grinding machines.
  • Inspecting sample work pieces to verify conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Starting mill or turning machines and observing operations to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Positioning, securing, and aligning cutting tools in tool holders on machines, using hand tools, and verifying their positions with measuring instruments.
  • Cranking machines through cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Studying blueprints, layouts or charts, and job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions, and to determine material requirements and operational sequences.
  • Selecting cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to written specifications or knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Moving controls to set cutting speeds and depths and feed rates, and to position tools in relation to work pieces.
  • Refilling, changing, and monitoring the level of fluids, such as oil and coolant, in machines.
  • Installing holding fixtures, cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movement, using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Computing unspecified dimensions and machine settings, using knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Lifting metal stock or work pieces manually or using hoists, and positioning and securing them in machines, using fasteners and hand tools.
  • Moving tool holders manually or by turning hand wheels, or engaging automatic feeding mechanisms to feed tools to and along work pieces.
  • Turning valve handles to direct the flow of coolant onto work areas or to coat disks with spinning compounds.
