About The Position

The CNC Lead – 2nd Shift supports daily CNC operations by providing hands-on leadership and technical support to CNC Operators. This role performs machine set-ups, troubleshooting, and quality inspections while helping ensure production priorities, safety, and quality requirements are met throughout the shift. The selected candidate will train on 1st shift for approximately 1–2 months to become familiar with our equipment, processes, quality requirements, and team. Upon successful completion of training, the position will transition to the 2nd shift schedule (Monday-Friday 2:00pm-11:00pm). Training will be on 1st shift (6:00am-2:30pm).

Requirements

  • 2 plus years of CNC machining and set-up experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience setting up CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming, offsets, tooling, and machining processes.
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other applicable inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and work instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively guide, train, and communicate with CNC Operators.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and a focus on results.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team player.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to work well with others across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform set-ups on CNC mills and lathes according to work instructions, drawings, travelers, and production requirements.
  • Perform basic CNC programming, program adjustments, and applicable machine offsets.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, set-up, and process issues during the shift.
  • Assist CNC Operators with machine operation, set-ups, tooling, and process questions.
  • Verify machines are properly set up and ready for production.
  • Escalate significant equipment, tooling, programming, or process concerns to the CNC supervisor, Production Manager, Engineering, or Quality as appropriate.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical support to CNC Operators on second shift.
  • Help coordinate daily work assignments and production priorities as directed by the CNC Supervisor or Production Manager.
  • Monitor workflow throughout the shift and communicate issues that may affect production schedules.
  • Help ensure employees follow established work instructions, processes, safety requirements, and company policies.
  • Support training of new and existing CNC Operators on machine operation, set-ups, work instructions and department procedures.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, good communication, and a productive work environment.
  • Communicate shift status, incomplete work, machine issues, quality concerns, and other important information to management and/or the incoming shift.
  • Escalate employee performance, attendance, conduct, or other personnel concerns to the CNC Supervisor or Production Manager.
  • Perform first-piece, in process, and other required inspections using applicable measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, tolerances, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Verify completed parts meet dimensional and quality requirements before continuing production.
  • Ensure required production and inspection documentation is completed accurately.
  • Identify nonconforming parts or processes and notify Quality and/or management as appropriate.
  • Assist Operators in understanding inspection requirements and proper use of measuring equipment.
  • Support corrective actions and troubleshooting related to machining or quality issues.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout the second shift.
  • Ensure required PPE and established safety procedures are followed.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or equipment concerns and escalate them promptly.
  • Encourage proper machine operation and safe work practices among CNC operators.
