About The Position

Phoenix Laser Solutions is the largest YAG laser welding house in North America, operating five facilities across the Midwest and serving aerospace, medical, defense, and injection mold customers. The company specializes in precision repair, modification, and assembly that most weld shops cannot perform. This role involves machining parts for laser-welded assemblies and custom automation. The position offers end-to-end visibility, allowing employees to see the customer, understand the part, and witness its shipment, avoiding a production black box. The company is seeking a CNC Lathe Programmer / Machinist, open to candidates from operator level with programming interest to senior programmers. The role involves programming, setting up, and running CNC lathe jobs in a high-mix shop, with opportunities to learn from senior programmers, gain ownership of work, and advance through a clear career ladder.

Requirements

  • Comfortable reading prints, including GD&T symbols and callouts.
  • CNC lathe experience (operating, setting up, or programming).
  • Attention to detail and pride in tight-tolerance work.
  • Willingness to learn and grow into the next level.

Nice To Haves

  • CAM programming experience in any modern package (ESPRIT, Mastercam, Fusion, etc.).
  • 3D modeling experience.
  • High-mix / short-run shop experience.
  • Background in aerospace, medical, or defense components.

Responsibilities

  • Read prints and 3D models (including GD&T callouts) and translate them into CNC lathe programs.
  • Program in CAM (ESPRIT, Mastercam, Fusion, or other modern CAM).
  • Set up CNC lathes, choose tooling, and determine feeds and speeds.
  • Run parts, inspect first articles, and document FAIs.
  • Troubleshoot setups or programs, with support from senior staff during the learning phase.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle time, extend tool life, and improve quality.
