CNC Lathe Operator
About The Position
The CNC Lathe Operator (Level I) produces machined parts by setting up and operating CNC Lathe machines, bar feeding or bar pulling operations, verifying machine operation, maintain accuracy and tolerances, update travelers and routings. This position requires mastery of the previous level's requirements and the ability to perform advanced functions. The operator must understand and identify different material types and sizes, review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set bar machine operations and sequencing, and input initial part dimensions into machine control panels. They will insert control instructions to start operation, review calculations for machine speed and feed ratios, and understand the difference between M-codes and G-codes. The role involves setting up bar lathes by installing tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, and understanding various operations like drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing. The operator will be responsible for taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and replacing worn tools, and adhering to quality assurance procedures. They must also use and properly store precision measuring equipment and prepare the next setup before the current job is complete. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- High school diploma, GED and/or Technical School Graduate with concentration in CNC Lathe and Mill operations or industry recognized certification.
- 1-3 years’ experience required.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Able to read, write, and have a working knowledge of English.
- A knowledge of technical drawings is required.
- Knowledge in the use of basic measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.

Responsibilities
- Produces machined parts by setting up and operating CNC Lathe machines.

- Enters instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, proving part programs.
- Understands the difference between M-codes and G-codes.
- Sets up bar lathes by installing tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
- Performs drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, thread chasing operations, and uses the proper tools for each.
- Takes measurements, detects malfunctions, troubleshoots processes, and adjusts and replaces worn tools.
- Adheres to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Uses and properly stores approved precision measuring equipment.
- Checks schedule and gets the next set-up ready before the previous job is complete.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
