About The Position

The CNC Lathe Operator is responsible for operating CNC lathes and/or mills to perform various functions such as turning, drilling, milling, reaming, and boring of parts according to setup sheet instructions. This role involves setting machine controls, monitoring machine operation, changing cutting tools, and verifying part conformance using precision measuring instruments. The operator will also operate CMM equipment, move production material, report machine errors, clean equipment, and collect data for setup and run times. Additionally, the operator will provide feedback on process improvements and report non-conforming conditions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least two years of related experience and/or equivalent education & experience
  • Previous experience reading blueprints and application of GD&T
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc series controls
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately measure parts using inspection tools such as but not limited to calipers, micrometers, bore, thread and height gages

Responsibilities

  • Uploads/Downloads programs in between machine control console and DNC database
  • Assists in proving out new programs and part production as necessary
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and part on CNC lathes and/or mills to perform various functions such as turning, drilling, milling, reaming, and boring of parts according to setup sheet instructions
  • Sets machine controls to position turret or spindle in relationship to part and to control factors such as chuck pressure, cutting tool positions and offsets and coolant flow
  • Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions. Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions or when automatic programming control malfunctions
  • Changes cutting tools according to processing requirements
  • Records characteristics of parts being produced using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to drawing specifications. May chart process data and adjust tool offsets for wear based on data, or provide feedback on process capability based on results at work center
  • Operates CMM equipment for measurement of part characteristics
  • Moves production material as required using cranes, powered industrial trucks or other means
  • Reports machine control errors to supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts as necessary
  • Performs daily and weekly machine maintenance as necessary
  • Data collects setup and run time information for jobs
  • Provides process improvement feedback and reports non-conforming conditions to the Company
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
